The organisation Leaf (Linking Environment And Farming) organises a nationwide event, Open Farm Sunday, every year.
Farms across the country open their gates to visitors and we're joining in again.
There is no charge for the day, and all are welcome. There is enough to see to interest all ages. Access is relatively easy, a little care is of course always necessary around farms and large animals, but it is all very straightforward with a bit of common sense and attention to our help.
Leaf's idea is to let people see what happens on a working farm. Because we're a small scale farm there is a wide range of things that happen here.
We'll be cooking up some delicious food on our farm BBQ, our butcher is going to do a demonstration (or two), get up close and personal with the tractor, see the animals and find our how your bacon is made Vowley Farm style! There'll also be a mini local food market with some food producers in the Wootton Bassett neighbourhood, so come and try local cheese and milk, jams and cakes, juice herbs, fruit and veg... it's all going to be here!
Despite the wet weather this week, the ground here is still dry. Because of the type of soil in the area, specifically on the farm here, it would take a huge amount of summer rain to make the ground too wet. The forecast for Sunday is still warm, and the amount of rain we've had and are expecting to have before then means that walking boots will be quite enough to be quite comfortable.
