WWOOFing & Volunteering
WWOOF stands for "World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms"... probably. The title, but not the acronym, has changed a few times over the years, but the ethos has remained the same.
It is an organisation that puts people who want to help out on farms with farms who want people to come and help out. We are a registered WWOOF host farm.
The host provides accommodation and food in exchange for work. The finer points of what's offered and e
xchanged is down to negotiation between the two parties. Particularly if you're new to the idea there's an explanation on the WWOOF website here, which also has links to their frequently asked questions ("FAQ's") page about it.
Of course, if you're not a member of WWOOF you can still come and help out if you want. Give us a call!
Here at Vowley Farm we have a wide range of projects, as well as the usual day-to-day running that we could use help with. Of course, since it's a farm, jobs and projects are also seasonal. The following projects are the types of things that we have done, or need to do.
- Barn clearing
- Laying of concrete floors
- Rainwater recycling
- Harnessing wind and solar energy
- Willow and reed bed construction
- General farm work
- Laying hedges
- Digging ditches
- Fencing
- Building chicken houses

- Tending the herb bed
- Managing the vegetable garden
- Welding gates and partitions
- Tractor & machinery maintenance
... how's that for starters?
We accept WWOOF'ers all year round. Generally we prefer people who stay for longer rather than shorter periods. Unfortunately, as a very diverse and working farm, it takes a few days to be able to find your way around the variety of things available to do, and so to leave almost immediately after that is more strain than our finances and time will allow.
